On the night of this Friday (25th), the Dallas Cowboys closed a deal with 23-year-old quarterback Trey Lance, following a trade with the San Francisco 49ers. The California team will receive the fourth pick of the 2024 Draft as compensation.

The deal will come with payouts of $5,540,956 in each of the next two years of the new contract in Texas.

Having graduated from North Dakota State University, he arrives to compete for the starting position with Dak Prescott, who led the NFL in interceptions last season. Cooper Rush, the backup, is now an outsider.

Selected as the future face of the 49ers franchise two years ago, Trey Lance suffered a right ankle fracture in the first quarter of the game against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3 of 2021. Prior to that, he had thrown for 194 yards and one interception in his two games that year.

With a delicate recovery, Jimmy Garoppolo was the starter for San Francisco and, last year, lost the position to prodigy Brock Purdy. With the addition of Sam Darnold to the roster, Trey ended up becoming only the third option in Kyle Shanahan's team, and the trade was a matter of time.

TREY LANCE'S NUMBERS WITH THE SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS:

Trey Lance played eight games for the San Francisco 49ers, four of them as a starter. He completed 54.9% of his 102 passes, with five touchdowns and three interceptions.

Lance averaged 7.8 yards per attempt and has a rating of 84.5. San Francisco will save $940,000 in relation to the team's salary cap in 2023 and an additional $5,310,717 during the 2024 season.
